Located in the provinceof Puntarenas, on thesouthern tip of Nicoya´s Peninsula. It was created by the Executive Decree No.10 of 21 October 1963. It has an area of 1172 terrestrial hectares and 1790navy hectares.
Cabo Blanco is a refuge for species of flora and fauna from the dry Pacificand for many marine species. It has a great importance for its scenic beauty. Cabo Blanco is located within the area of tropical rainforest life.Predominated by species with mixed deciduous evergreen. Some of the most commonspecies are the Jobo, the naked Indian, the arbutus, the Guácimo, the guarumo,the chaperon and the overripe which are species of great commercial value. The fauna in the reserve is not very diverse. However, there are species ofmammals such as deer, monkeys, Congo,and red-faced, the porcupine, the guatusa, the tepezcuinte, the hammer, thecoyote, the armadillo or cusuco or the ocelot or aucel.
For its part the typical land birds are the Toledo, the magpie, the cattle egret, thebearded vulture, the red widow, the green garcilla, the chachalaca, thekingfisher, the perico aliamarillo and the cabercirrojo vulture. There are four programs of the reserve. The research program aims todevelop research, establish and implement the necessary measures for itscontrol and supervision.
The Environmental Education Program supports community relations to createa favorable atmosphere between the inhabitants of the nearby reservation. Italso ensures the attention of national and foreign tourists who visit thereserve.
