4 DAYS & 3 NIGHTS

HIKING CIRCUIT IN THE MIDLE AND

LOW BASIN OF THE  SAVEGRE RIVER


                              
     
 

Day 01- EL SILENCIO/RESERVA LOS CAMPESINOS.

 

The hike begins early from El Silencio to QuebradaArroyo, where Los Campesinos reserve is located, also known as the “VanillaMen” due to the factthat vanilla is one of the plants that the farmers of the zone sow andcultivate.  During this hike you will goon a rope bridge to get to the other side of Savegre River.  Then you continue walking until you get toLos Campesinos.  The forest in underrecovery.  After lunch you will be hikingtoward the waterfall and the river, where you will have the opportunity tobathe.  During dinner you will be sharingwith some locals who will talk about the town’s history

 

Lodging: LosCampesinos reserve has 8 cabins, 4 of them have balcony and privatebathroom.  The other 4 have a sharedbathroom outside the room. Each cabin has capacity for 4 people.

 

(*)Technical level: Basic: It takes 3 hours. It startsat sea level and ends at 400meters above sea level, approximately.  It is about4.3 miles (7 kilometers).

 

 

Day 02- QUEBRADA ARROYO / SAN ISIDRO DE DOTA (Rancho Tinamú)

Breakfast.  You will be leaving early for the walk to SanIsidro de Dota, where Rancho Tinamú is located.   On the way there you will enjoy seeing areasof primary and secondary forest, bird species in the zone are abundant, as wellas mammal species. 

RanchoTinamú is a hostel located in the town of San Isidro de Dota, a small townlocated in the middle of the forest. It is is taken care of by the Parrafamily. The main activities here are agricultural. Here visitors canparticipate of the daily activities of the farm, such as milking the cows,watching the production in the vegetable garden and different arboreal plantspecies, among others.

San Isidrode Dota is a typical town of the rural zones of Costa Rica, located near theCerro Nora protected zone, it has luxuriant always green forests. The zone hasan amazing water richness, there are numerous springs found along the way. Itis one of the rainiest zones of the country, with precipitations of up to 5000 mm. From certain partsof San Isidro de Dota you will have magnificent views of the Savegre River andif the weather is good, you will be able to see the Peak of Death (Cerro de LaMuerte) and a beautiful landscape of the pacific coast.  Lodgingin Rancho Tinamú. Lodging in Rancho Tinamú:  Capacity for 16 people, 2 people in each room.  But if you are willing to stay in triplerooms, there can be 18 people. The bathrooms are shared. There are tents in thehostel so that the ones that can’t sleep in the hostel can camp.  Besides, 30 minutes from the place there aretwo small cabins for more people to stay there, the capacity is for 4 each but2 people in each little cabin can sleep there.

 

(**)Technical level: Medium It takes6 hours, The hike takes 6hours on a fairly difficult level of ascent of 400 meters above sealevel. It is (8.7 miles) 14 kilometers.

 

                              

 

Day 03: SAN ISIDRO DE DOTA / COMUNIDAD DEL BRUJO

Afterbreakfast you will be heading towards El Brujo community.  This community is located next to the Savegreriver, where cultural and natural ecosystems mingle in a harmonic way.  You can also enjoy beautiful naturallandscapes and agreat biological reserve. Mid-way we stop to have lunch at the hostel located in Piedras Blancas,managed by a family from the community. On the way you will have to walk on a hanging bridge and go on a ropebridge.  Lodging in el Brujo Tent Camp.

 

Lodging in El Brujo Tent Camp: Capacityfor 16 people, 2 in each tent.  Forbigger groups, the ones that don’t sleep in the tents, can sleep at somefamilies’ houses, in rooms they have prepared for this purpose.

Day 04: ELBRUJO/COOPESILENCIO

 

Breakfast.  You will be departing early, at 6:30 a.m.,back to Coopesilencio.  This is one ofthe most demanding events, but at the same time it is also one of the mostbeautiful passages of the entire hike. You will walk by a long path facing theDivision and Savegre rivers. From there you can admire the magnificent Savegreriver, known as one of the best to practice rafting and view one of the bestlandscapes of the Mid Pacific zone. Then, the challenge of going up and down the mountain between thedivision river and the town of San Cristobal start, and then walk along thebank of Savegre River, until you get to Savegre, Quepos. You willget to Coopesilencio at 12:00 pm, approximately. Lunch. End of the services.


(**)Technical level: Medium: The hike takes 6 hours on a fairly difficult levelof ascent of 400 metersabove sea level.   It is 9.9 miles (16Kilometers), approximately.
