HIKING ON THE YORKIN COMMUNITY

3 DAYS/ 2 NIGHTS

 

1st. Day BAMBU/ HIKING TO THE MOUNTAINS/ BRIBRI’S CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

 

Welcome to the small Village of Bambu, by the representatives of Yorkin, those who will be your hosts during your stay in this indigenous community.  It begins navegating in favor of the current on the Telire River and an hour later the journey continues against the current, with direction to the mountain, on the Yorkin River.The trip lasts two hours is an unforgettable adventure, within an environment typical of the tropical humid forest.

 

The community of Yorkin, composed by Bribris natives who arrived here more than 5000 years ago, it is located on the riverside and consists of a small population, although with a great organization since it counts with a grammar school, the TV High School and a clinic. Nevertheless, they preserve to a great extent their traditions, their culture, and their language.

 

After the ritual of reception to the visitors, on the part of the community, the hiking will begin  with direction to the mountain, trekking  that has a 4 hours duration,  crossing  primary and secondary forest, rich in flora and fauna. With an altitud up to the 400 meters.A stop for lunch on the mountain is made.

 

At the return to the Yorkin reserve, after a fully deserved rest, the visitors take part of the activities of the making of chocolate, handmade, as the natives do. Later, the natives teach their hostshow to make the local craft with sheets of the Suital palm.

2nd. DAY TREKKING TO THE GUAYMI RESERVATIONS ON THE  PANAMA BORDER/ LEARNING HOW TO USE THE ARCH AND THE ARROW

 

After breakfast, departure with direction to the Guaymi indigenous reservation Guaymi located on the Panama border. The walk has three hours duration one way, and 3 hours returning. The Guaymi, it is the biggest indigenous community spread in Panama.Evidences of this etnia go back at the age of 11000 B. C.  They still practice subsistence agriculture and even practise the polygamy. This community has a great affinity and closed ties of friendship with the Bribris from Yorkin.

 

During the walk it is possible to observe the varieties of farmings of subsistence of the indigenous population, also a big diversity of birds and plants.

 

To the return in Yorkin, after a fully deserve drest, the natives will teach him to the visitors how to use the arch and the arrow, that were, across several centuries, vital tools for their subsistence

 

Dinner and accommodation in the community Yorkin.

 

3er Day YORKIN/ BAMBU

 

After the breakfast, farewell at river side, before boarding the canoes with direction of the Bambu village. The trip is similar to the one realized on the first day with the difference that in this occasion begins navigating in favor of the current.  Arrival  to Bambu and end of our services.

 

Includes: 

  • Overnight in the community, rooms with bath

  • Local guide

  • Canoe transportation from Bambu Villages round trip

  • A tour conductor for a group of at least 10 people.

  • All meals. Begining with lunch on 1st. day and ending with the breakfast on the 3rd day.

 

What to bring:

  • Light clothing for the warm areas

  • Raining coat

  • Mosquito repelent

  • Towel and bathing suit for refresingbaths on the way

  • Flash light

  • Sweets and other light snacks

  • Special shoes for hiking
