How to get there: In order to get to drive to Monteverde from San Joseyou need to take the Inter American Highway, the same one that passes next toJuan Santamaria International Airport. Follow the signs to Puntarenas and thento Cañas and Bagaces. Keep on this road and take a right before the bridge atLagartos (there is a sign for Monteverde). At this point you will have traveled100 miles (160 km) from San Jose. You will travel then for 20 miles (35 km) ona dirt road all the way up to Monteverde. El Sapo Dorado is less than a milejust out of Santa Elena on the road to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
